Welcome to NeeKou Artz! My name is Negar Kouchaki and I am the founder of NeeKou Artz. I am an interior designer and a self-taught artist who is obsessed with creating new designs and art pieces.
I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. I moved to the US when I was 18 and have been living in California for almost 8 years now.
Since I was a kid I have always been doodling and sketching as a hobby. My drawings could be as simple as human eyes or lips or as complex as a scenery in the nature. However, my biggest dream was to become an interior architect/designer. This lead me to enroll in interior design program at San Jose State University and ultimately I graduated form SJSU with BFA of interior design in May 2016. Since then I have been working as an interior designer in an architecture firm in San Jose. Yet I never stopped my childhood hobby. In the summer of 2016, I decided to take my art seriously and to collect all my art works. I created an Instagram page and I got motivated with fans' kind comments and supports.
The base of all my drawings is pen and paper which is what I started drawing with last year. Later on, I began adding watercolor to my paintings and the result motivated me to create more and more. The patterns and faces you see are basically how I transfer my complex and tangles thoughts on paper. With using abstract human faces in my drawing I try to arouse the viewer's curiosity and make them wonder about the stories behind each of the faces. I find inspirations in my everyday surroundings; from nature, animals, and human beings to emotions and sensations.
The process of each art piece is different from one another. I keep adding details, lines, and patterns until I feel like the piece is complete. Depending on the complexity and the size of the work, some take me days or months to complete. For instance, the "tale of faces", which is my biggest piece so far, took me three months to complete.
My goal is to transfer my drawings and patterns into products that you can get in touch with everyday. I hope my work will arouse a sense of curiosity in people and inspire you to create.
To see all my art pieces, click on "shop" bottom on the homepage. There you will see my two art work collections. The "Solo" collection is including my first five art pieces are all drawn with pen on white paper. My inspiration for this collection was feelings moods and sensation in my life. You will find more details of each work on their individual page.
My second collection is called "color wave" which includes my watercolor and pen art works. This collection is inspired by ocean weave and sea creatures.
There is always more story in each piece than what you read under their description. I like you to use your imagination and try to create your own story.
